'Burrima' checklist

Things to do whilst visiting ‘Burrima’ boardwalk

  • Take some time to bird watch – there are numerous species of bird life in the area
  • Enjoy the native flora and fauna
  • Wander along the 1.8 km boardwalk around the Macquarie Marshes – the walk is flat and level and rated easy.

What to bring

  • Binoculars and cameras
  • Field books, and bird field guides to identify any of the flora or fauna you see
  • Sun protection, hats, insect repellent, sunscreen
  • Water and snacks, lunch – food as you the nearest shop is some distance away!

Driving on ‘Burrima’

  • Remain on the sealed road. Do not drive on side tracks.
  • Drive slowly, roads can be hazardous and there is wildlife around. 
  • Be aware of pedestrians.
  • Park only in the designated car park.
  • If rain is likely be aware, and leave the property before rain occurs as the road is very slippery when wet.  

More user-friendly conditions, may be for near the entrance steps, or at the start of the Boardwalk.

Beware of hazards

  • Snakes
  • Falling limbs
  • Open water: use caution especially with children. Depths of water may vary up to 1 metre deep.
  • Boardwalk height: 0.7 metres to 1 metre
  • Boardwalk distance: Circuit length 1.8 km
  • Heat: Be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat stoke and heat exhaustion.
  • Roads leading to ‘Burrima’ are slippery when wet – best to leave before the weather sets in.

  • In the event of a fire, calmy make your way to the carpark and evacuate the property. Call 000 and notify a contact person listed below. Do not attempt to fight the fire.

Conditions of entry and use

  • Access to ‘Burrima’ and use of facilities is permitted at your own risk.
  • ‘Burrima’ is a private property, respect it as your own and take care.
  • We operate on an honesty system, and trust.
  • Register on arrival at the shed near the parking area.
  • Be self-sufficient, there is no potable water on site.
  • Take all rubbish and food scraps with you when you leave. There are no rubbish bins.
  • Only drive on the formed road.  Park vehicles in the parking area only.
  • Stay on the boardwalk, use handrails where available.
  • Supervise children at all times.
  • Take responsibility for your valuables (wallet, keys, handbags, etc).
  • Carry sufficient water, wear appropriate walking footwear, hat, use sunscreen and insect repellant.
  • Use restrooms provided.
  • Beware of snakes. If you do see one, remain calm, never threaten or approach snakes.
  • Take only photos, leave only footsteps. Leave all plants and animals, living and dead, Aboriginal and historic places are protected.
  • No motor bikes, bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, etc (exception of mobility aids) are allowed on the boardwalk.
  • If rain is likely, please leave the property immediately. The roads on ‘Burrima’ will become very slippery when wet.

  •  Pets (except certified assistance animals)
  • Swimming
  • Boating
  • Fishing
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Illict drugs
